Sustainable Cultivation : Fostering Young Talents
Talent cultivation is a key ESG initiative at BenQ Materials. Nurturing the next generation to become the pillars of our company is an indispensable task.
Our Potential Talent Scholarship was set up in 2014 as a way of encouraging select students to continue their advancement in their chosen professional fields. We have also been hosting the Q+ Elite Summer Internship and On-Campus Advanced Lecture programs, which are designed to assist students in establishing themselves professionally. These programs offer guidance on developing expertise and facilitate learning and exposure to how a professional workplace operates.
In the eight years since its inception, the Potential Talent Scholarship has benefited almost 60 students. Through a substantial award system, we encourage young bright minds to actively engage in forward-looking research. The program provides pre-offers and further internship opportunities for rigorously selected students to gain hands-on experience and bolster their marketability.
To cater for talents from various fields, the scholarship is divided into Science & Technology and Business & Management categories. Every student is eligible to receive up to NT$240,000 worth of sponsorship. Feedback from past scholarship recipients have been tremendously positive. More than just the valuable encouragement and support received, recipients have also noted that the opportunity to exchange ideas with senior engineers and industry experts contributed significantly to their future career planning. This is reassuring for our efforts and drives us to deepen our support for young talents.
Over the past two years, many companies have cancelled or postponed their summer internship programs due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, under BenQ Materials’ comprehensive epidemic prevention policy, the Q+ Elite Summer Internship program has prevailed. A new mentoring system was added in 2021. Senior executives from each business unit are now invited to counsel students on completing their designated projects as well as providing them with guidance and suggestions on their subsequent career plans.
During their two-month summer internship program, students are assigned to different business units according to their aptitude for practical learning. This allows them to experience the real-world workplace and helps to determine if their intended field and industry meets their expectations. Additionally, professional skills training such as presentations design courses are also provided to cultivate general skillsets that enhance future competitiveness. For those who perform well in the summer internships, we offer opportunities to continue their internship or be given priority in joining the company after graduation.
Internships aside, we work with universities to host On-Campus Advanced Lectures. Our CEO, Z.C. Chen, and senior executives are invited to the chemicals and materials-related university departments — often at their alma mater — to share experiences and inspire students on their career development. These personal interactions enrich inter-generational talent exchanges and together lay the foundation for a vibrant industrial future.
As in other developed economies, a low birth rate reduces the available pool of young people, exacerbating the scarcity of talent. Given the pivotal role of human capital for any enterprise, especially in light of the fast development of emerging technologies and applications in accelerating digital transformation, we push forward in our efforts to nurture talents by offering the best industry platform for their development.
We have many resources at our disposal which we bring to bear, including the mentoring provided by our multidisciplinary team of professionals and our deep roots with educational institutions that champion industry-academia collaboration. We continue to pursue these endeavors to prepare the next generation for the workplace by discovering and fostering their abilities for a bright career ahead.
